Rector
- Ven. Dr. Tim Long
“I started my working life as a high school teacher, which I was
for almost 15 years. God called us into the ministry when we were in
Grahamstown, first in the Assemblies of God, into which we had moved
for various reasons, and then back into the Anglican Church, at
which point we moved to the Pretoria Diocese, where we were for the
past 20 years. For 7 years we lived in Atteridgeville, a township to
the west of Pretoria, where I was Rector of St Bernard Mizeki. These
years brought us into a very different situation in many ways and
were a time of tremendous challenge as well as blessing for us.
Kirstie and I have been married for over 30 years. We have four
children, none of whom lives anywhere geographically close. While we
miss them, as our youngest son put it well, we ‘are scattered but
not separated’. We have
seven grandchildren.”

Self-supporting
Priest - Revd. Helen Els
At the tender age of 35yrs, I felt the need to go to
church to have my children Baptized. I needed to be confirmed first,
which is where I feel that God spotted me for use in His Vineyard.
Peter Wyngaard came to visit me after I was widowed and asked my
daughter how she would feel if her mum became a priest. He records
that he had to wait for us to stop laughing after we fell off the
sofa.
And the rest is history. It was a long haul to complete my studies of
first the Certificate, then the Diploma in Theology (with
distinction). My main ministry is amongst the elderly and shut-ins,
and I love all the other duties that fall to the Clergy at St
Michael’s. These include organising our monthly family social, taking
communion to various retirement homes and home and hospital visits.
My children live in Bristol, UK, where they have blessed me with 3
grandchildren. My mother and 5 brothers and their famiies also spoil
me when I go on my hols in England. I consider South Africa my home
(my mom was born here), and have my name down for the Village for when
I quiet down from my wild social life.

Youth
Pastor - Revd. Shona Fleming
I matriculated from DSG in Grahamstown.
I completed a Medical BSc at Wits. I then worked as a medical
underwriter at Liberty Life for some years before staying at home to
look after my children. I completed a Post Graduate Diploma in
Education through UNISA and do relief teaching in Science, Maths and
Biology.
I was the Sunday School Superintendent for a few years, I served on
the council as head of the training portfolio, I am a parish
minister and I have served as a warden. Currently I am employed by
St. Michael and all Angels as a youth pastor and am studying
Theology through UNISA.
My vision is to grow the youth into valuable, active, and
non-judgmental members of society who know who they are in Christ,
and are empowered and equipped to meet the challenges that they face
through having a deep and meaningful relationship with God.

Musical Director -
Jenny Bourdillon
I retired from school music teaching in April 2001, and since then
have been teaching piano and recorder classes at home. I have also
been called upon to accompany for school choirs at our local
Eisteddfods.
During my years as music director in the High Schools I was the
conductor for the combined schools choir and orchestra at their
annual concert. The choir - 500 children (SATB) sang a great
variety of songs including ‘The Heavens are Telling’ from Haydns
‘Creation, ‘Speed Your Journey’ by Verdi, and Beethoven’s ‘To God
Eternal’ as well as spirituals and popular songs of the day.
I have been on the committee and Chairperson of our Musicamp
organization for many years and have resigned this year in
anticipation of my relocation to South Africa. In this position I
have conducted the Musicamp Choir, and their youth orchestra.
I myself have sung with adult choirs in Harare performing oratorios
such as ‘St.Matthew Passion’ ‘Elijah’ ‘Dream of Gerontius’ and have
been accompanist and co/director for my own church choir ‘All Souls’
in Mount Pleasant since 1976. ‘All Souls’ is an Anglican /
Methodist Church, which has been ministering to its combined
congregation very successfully since the 1960’s. The choir is an
integral part of all the services providing special anthems for
Easter, Christmas and other special occasions in the church
calendar.
