Education" (thank you letter and photos
The Golang Education Outreach
programme was first implemented in January 2004, with as many as 42
sponsors pledging their support for the first year.
The programme is run in conjunction with the Emthonjeni
Community Centre at Zandspruit, near Honeydew.
The children who attend this Aftercare Centre on a Tuesday
and Thursday afternoon qualified on a first come basis to be provided
daily with a fortified porridge and tea for breakfast before they
attend classes at the local Masakhane Tswelelopele Primary School.
The children were also given one set of summer and winter
uniforms per year as well as socks and shoes.
In addition to this their school fees were paid for the year.
The initial goal to sponsor 10 Zandspruit children to attend school
and receive a nutritious meal every day having been spectacularly
exceeded is a testament to the generosity of the people of St
Michaels. Working closely with Mosaic Church, Janet Rowell's
tireless dedication to the project in making it the success it has
been is a credit to St Michaels.
For any enquiries you can contact Janet Rowell 082 533 1902
or the Church Office.

Refugee Appeal (an appeal from our
Diocese)
Most of the refugees in the camps are sitting around, not doing
anything: there is nothing to do. Some women do braiding of hair but
for the rest both the women and men sit and talk, talk, talk; often
getting deeper into the spiral of despair. We are in the process of
organising a few activities for the refugees in the various sites to
get involved in. An obvious one is knitting and crocheting for the
women. For the men we’re considering simple woodwork, or beading or
wire-work. With a bit of luck (and quality control) we will be able
to sell some of the wares so that the refugees can earn a little.
For the kids, we will also try and get a few classes going once the
refugees have moved to another site. Our request: would you please
donate some money so that we can buy the necessary raw material?
Please deposit it into:

A
further appeal received a few days later
for the needs of babies, small children and women: At the Glenanda
site we need nappies, baby food, baby feeding bottles, toilet paper,
sanitary towels, and other things that you (as mothers) found
essential in caring for your babies and small children. Please
deliver to St. Francis, 46 Tyrone Ave, Parkview, between 8.30 and
13.00 hrs.
At the moment clothes are not needed.

Dorcas Soup Kitchen
Thank you to all those supporting this project.
Our mission is to provide some comfort to the many who depend on the
Dorcas Soup Kitchen for a daily meal.
2-litre ice-cream containers are available
in the foyer. These should be filled with soup and
placed in the freezer in the church kitchen. If you are unable to
cook soup, ingredients would be most welcome, i.e. tinned
vegetables, lentils, barley, 3-in-1 soup mix, split peas, macaroni,
etc. If fresh vegetables are donated, please give them to Fr John
(475 9041).

Outreach
project: Kwanele
Janet
Rowell, Solly Machaba, Loraine Tulleken and Vic Rowell will be
visiting Kwanele in Dundee, one of our new outreach projects, on Friday
31st March.
They
would dearly love to take along useful items such as shoes,
clothing, food, money, blankets, for children and adults who are
really desperately needy.
If you’re able to help with such items, please bring donations to
the Church or the office in bags clearly marked ‘KWANELE’.
