Holiday club 2017

Holiday club 2017

Holiday club is a week long Holiday programme where the youth (teenagers) are leaders and facilitators for primary school children coming to learn about God and have fun. The programme begins on Sunday night, and ends on Friday afternoon. The youth sleep over at St Mikes where we have an evening programme and prep every night.

Each morning we have breakfast for the leaders, a morning devotion to prepare for the day and then the children start to arrive around 8am. The youth spend the morning with the children doing various activities, games and crafts as well as worship, basically teaching them bible stories and more about being a Christian. The children leave at 1pm and then we wrap up with the leaders. The youth then head home at 2pm to have lunch, relax and have dinner and get anything they need for the next day. Then we are back again at church at 7.30pm for prep and the evening youth programme.

Quiet Morning

Silence is the language of the soul, and we all need quiet times in our lives to flourish and grow in spirit. This is why we should feel very privileged indeed to to be offered conducted quiet days in this parish for reflection on our relationship with God and with others. As we focus on growing God's kingdom and growing ourselves spiritually by giving attention to the things of which God approves, our  minds will be shaped like His. Can any of us deny that we truly need to grow more fully as people of The Way of Christ Jesus?

We invite you to resolve this year to attend all the Quiet Mornings that are offered to you for your spiritual growth. Please diarise the following dates so that you can be sure of setting aside these times and becoming intentional in your pursuit of God's will for you.

The next Quiet Morning will be led by Jeremy Jacobs from 9am-12noon Saturday 14th May

You will be invited to sign-up for these Quiet Mornings nearer each date. Please keep an eye on the weekly pew bulletin and the notice board in the church foyer.

Women’s World Day of Prayer

Women’s World Day of Prayer 2016
Our Church has been selected to host this most enjoyable and thought-provoking afternoon service for the West Rand area. Faith communities from Florida, Florida Park, Discovery, Horison, Maraisburg, Roodepoort, and Weltevreden Park, have been invited to participate.
We need to have a planning committee to prepare for the day (Friday 4 March) and therefore we appeal to the women in our congregation to volunteer to help.
We seek skills such as:

  • Paper flower making (Butterfly Jasmine)
  • Tea/coffee making and serving
  • Church decorating
  • Donation/Offering collection
  • Costume (Spanish ruffles) and
  • special effects
  • Ushers/Stewards.

The service has been prepared by the women of Cuba and focuses on Christ’s unconditional love and acceptance of children into the Kingdom of God.
Please contact Diana Murray 011 794 6977 or email dianam@tiscali.co.za if you can help. We will meet on held Sunday 17 January after the 09h30 service at 1h.00 in the Small Hall to discuss the basics. Thereafter an ecumenical meeting will be held 23 January at 09h00.
