At St Michael’s, we have always celebrated our Harvest Festival in winter, because that is when the soup kitchens
most need our help. This year we will be donating the produce and groceries to three groups which need our help.
1. Marang House. This home provides South Africa’s seriously ill children from disadvantaged backgrounds with a stable home environment while they are undergoing treatment at the Charlotte Makeke Hospital. At present it accommodates 13 children suffering either from diabetes, renal failure or pulmonary problems.
To become involved in this very worthwhile cause, you can find them at 205 Acacia Road, Northcliff, or telephone Melanie at 011 476 6698. To see the Marang House’s wish-list go to http//jmp.sh/Povy302
2. Munsieville Informal Settlement in Krugersdorp. There are plus minus 30 people living in dire conditions in this community, who really need a little relief.
3. Dieplsloot Crèche and Sunday School. Rev Nancy has 24 pre-school children in her crèche. She has taken them off the streets, so that they can be taught before they go to Primary School. She wants to make soup for them and give them some fruit. There is a Sunday School of over 80 children who attend because they are fed.
If you decide to buy fresh produce, please leave your donation at the altar by 9 am on Saturday 25 July. If you are unable to make that, but would like to buy groceries please bring them on Sunday and place them at the pillar where the flower arrangement is. Please see the needs list below:
Mealie meal, Tinned fish, Dried beans, Morvite, Cooking oil, Cremora, Tea bags, Soups, Baked beans, Corned meat, Peanut Butter, Powdered Milk, Chicken / Beef, stock cubes, Tinned mixed vegetables, Tinned tomato and onion, Salt, Jam, Rice, Sugar.
We are reminded of what St Paul says in 2 Corinthians 9 v 7: Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
